Children & Young People's Cabinet

The role of each cabinet member is to ensure that all children and young people across Slough are represented in democratic decision making processes, especially when it comes to services that affect young people directly.  Formal meetings are held twice a term, often with councillors and directors, to discuss issues and services affecting young people.  At the formal meeting, guest speakers come along to consult with the cabinet members about their service and what they have to offer the children and young people of Slough.

Below are some examples of projects and consultations the young people's cabinet have been involved in over the last year:

  • Hosting and launching Slough’s 2008-2011 Children's Plan
  • Launching the new Children's Trust website
  • Youth Opportunity Fund decision making panel
  • Photo shoot for the "Proud to be Slough" Campaign
  • Feedback on the designs for Slough's new Youth Bus
  • Offered their views and opinions about the Slough's Obesity Strategy
  • Decided the final choice of graphics for the "SloughforYOUth" website logo
  • Representing the cabinet at important steering groups and service meetings including the Children's Trust  Shadow Board, "Youth Offer" member group and the Climate Change Delivery Group.

Children and Young People's Cabinet - Elections

During September and October, young people across Slough's secondary schools will be running campaigns for elections onto Slough Borough Council's Children and Young People's Cabinet.

The Young People's Cabinet is about empowering young people to have their say and to be able to influence and make changes to local services on behalf of all children and young people in slough.

If you are aged between 11 and 19 and want to make and see real changes in the way services for children and young people are shaped and delivered, then don’t forget to stand for election!

Voting will take place in schools during October 2009, so make sure you have your say!!
