You're in the parents area of the Slough Children's Trust website!
Childcare cost varies according to the age of the child and the number of hours they are being cared for. Depending on your family circumstances and the total cost of childcare, you may be able to claim up to 80% of your childcare costs through Child and Working Tax Credits. Your Post Office, Tax Office or Work and Pensions Benefits Agency will be able to give you more details or you can contact the Inland Revenue on 0845 300 3900 or through their website www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits.
There is extra help for working parents with tax and National Insurance savings available if your employer helps you to meet your childcare costs, either directly or through childcare vouchers. This help is often offered through salary schemes. If you receive help from your employer, you cannot claim tax credits on the same childcare costs. You should always check how your tax credit entitlement may be affected before joining an employer supported scheme so you can establish which support is best for you.
There is existing help available for parents in a range of different circumstances including parents who are students, lone parents, teenage parents and for disabled parents and children.
