Attendance

Slough LA (Local Authority) is responsible for making sure parents fulfil their obligation to provide their child with an education.

The Local Authority employs Attendance Improvement Officers who monitor attendance across Slough's schools and work in conjunction with school staff and parents.

If your child does not attend school regularly, you may receive a visit from one of the Attendance Improvement Officers who will work with you to address the problem.  Continued poor attendance or truancy could lead to stricter measures being imposed.

Family Holidays

Family holidays should ideally be taken during school holidays and never at a crucial point of your child's education e.g. the start of term or during examinations.  However, where this is not possible, you must seek the permission of the school.  The school will consider your request and contact you with a decision.  Schools will not normally allow a child to miss more than 10 days during the academic year unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Useful hints and tips

  • If your child is ill or needs to be absent for any reason, contact the school as soon as possible.  Your child's attendance record will be accurately updated.
  • Always seek the school's permission if any term time absence, e.g. a holiday, is required.  If you don't your child will be marked down as having an unauthorised absence.
  • Congratulate your child when he/she receives their attendance certificate at the end of term.
  • Take an interest in your child's schoolwork.
